Why Use Social Media?

We talk a lot about social media – Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc. – and how to best use it for your business. But why should your business worry about social media in the first place? Simply put, in today’s technologically connected world, social media is the best way to build awareness of your brand.

Social media has a wide reach.
Twitter has 255 million active users. Instagram has 200 million. Facebook has 1.28 billion. Each of these could potentially be a customer if you know how to use social media channels to reach them.

Social media drives traffic to your site.
For the average website, about 21% of its visitors were referred from links on Facebook. Users genuinely want to share the brands that they enjoy with their friends and followers.

Social media is built on direct customer interaction.
I’ve brought this point up time and time again, because it is so important – by replying to comments and generally interacting with the users who follow you, you are building relationships with your customers. These relationships lead to customers sharing your brand with others.

Brand awareness is (or should be) each business’s top priority. Social media channels are the most effective means of building it.
